You might be having dry eyes. Try using Systane / Soha eye drops 4times daily for 2 weeks. if not better, consult your nearest ophthalmologist

U can safely use E/D Maxmoist/softvisc. As she is an elderly & diabetic , it’s safer to check for cataract and diabetic retinopathy.
